Rapid Dynamic Compaction (RIC)

Rapid Impact Compaction (RIC) is a soil improvement technique that is achieved by the repeated application of high-energy impacts. The impacts generated are made by dropping a mass of about 7 to 12 tons from a height of 0.3 to 1.2 meters. This mass falls on a circular plate that is in contact with the ground and has a diameter of between 1.3 and 1.8 meters. Typically between 35 and 50 impacts are made per minute. The result is an increase in the soil's load-bearing capacity as well as mitigation of liquefaction at a depth of 7.50 meters.
